• Private Residential Project nestled in Karnataka's picturesque countryside.

With a focal point on interior architecture , it merges contemporary aesthetics with timeless elements. The house is designed with expansive open spaces that extend a warm invitation to the surrounding nature. From sourcing unique contemporary and antique pieces to crafting bespoke furniture that enhances each space's functionality, every step of the design process involves the expertise of a dedicated local team of craftsmen.

Adding to its allure is a pool, designed with local granite, imparting a natural deep blue tone. Surrounded by lush greenery, the pool area, along with a canopy overhead, provides a tranquil retreat, offering a unique experience that complements the interior design. In every corner, this residence reflects the collaborative effort that goes beyond the mere act of construction. It is a celebration of the skilled hands and minds that contributed to its creation, fostering an environment where craftsmanship and cultural richness converge.

  • Rehabilitation of the first floor of a historic building in the Colaba district of Mumbai and creation of the gallery space - Æquo -

The Devidas Mansion, situated in the famous Colaba neighborhood, serves as the distinguished setting for æquō design gallery. Carefully selected for its rich historical and artistic surroundings, the mansion offers an expansive volume of space within the confines of a protected building adorned with captivating details. The choice of this location presented a unique challenge, met with a commitment to preservation and innovation. Renovation efforts were undertaken to harmonize with the historical significance while aligning seamlessly with the gallery's vision. Following my characteristic approach of a calm and timeless design, the project aimed to create a space adaptable to diverse user needs.

At its core, æquō is conceived as more than just a gallery; it's a blend of a exhibition space and a functional work environment. Workshops, meeting room, and versatile areas further enhance the functionality of the space, offering immersive experiences for designers and visitors. A distinct feature, referred to as the "greenhouse," lines the building's facade, providing a layered connection between the street and the showroom. This concept draws inspiration from the historical use of open loggias to shield against the sun and heat, preserving the essence of outdoor spaces within the gallery. Transparency becomes a guiding principle, evident in the manipulation of existing rooms in the showroom and meeting space. Elements like central teak wood columns, once concealed behind layers of paint, were unveiled, adding a touch of marvel to the gallery's aesthetic. The discovery of three small windows, strategically opened to welcome natural light into the entrance, enhances the gallery's appeal.

Central to both my philosophy and æquō's identity is the exclusive use of local materials, transcending trendiness to honor India's rich material heritage. From stone selections to intricately casted metal handles, every detail remains rooted in and contributes to the celebration of India's resources. Materiality, a focal point in my design practice, fosters a serene dialogue between volumes and textures, creating a gallery space that encapsulates a contemporary and minimalist exterior housing a wealth of historical influences.
